For just over a year, the largest dark storefront in downtown Alamo has been the former Rite Aid at 130 Alamo Plaza. When DanvilleSanRamon.com stopped by in early September, remodeling crews were working inside. The space is set to become the first Vim + Vigor Fitness "Reserve Club," with a December opening target.
The replacement is a gym, and it is moving in beside two fitness studios the plaza already has. The Iron House at 190F Alamo Plaza and BODYROK at 170F Alamo Plaza both appear in that same report. Once the Reserve Club opens, one center will hold a 24-hour open-floor club, a coached strength studio that caps groups at six, and a music-led Pilates class studio. Each one trains people in a different way, and all three share the lot with Safeway and the post office.
The change took longer than it looks from Danville Boulevard. Here is the sequence:
The first and last entries are what matter here. Alamo Plaza had a full-size gym until 2020. In October 2025, a DanvilleSanRamon.com cover story on downtown Alamo listed the plaza's mix as Safeway, the post office, CVS, casual restaurants, salons, medspas, fitness studios and doctors' offices, and it noted more vacancies, including the Rite Aid. The center's owner, EDENS, describes Alamo Plaza as grocery-anchored by Safeway and describes its own "thoughtful revitalization efforts" there. Filling the largest vacancy with a fitness club brings back a use the plaza had for years, and this time the smaller studios are already established when the large club arrives.
Vim + Vigor runs clubs in Campbell, Concord, Pleasanton, San Jose Meridian and several other cities in California and Nevada. Alamo is where it is introducing a new tier. The company calls the Reserve Club "our most elevated fitness experience, designed for those who expect more from where they train," and its Alamo page describes curated interior finishes, purposeful lighting and design details chosen with care.
The equipment list is specific: Panatta Sport, Arsenal Strength, Torque Fitness, Life Fitness, Matrix, Hammer Strength and American Barbell. Recovery gets as much space on the page as training does. The club advertises a Himalayan salt sauna, red-light therapy, compression boots and massage chairs, plus personal training. Bay Area Telegraph reported that the club also advertises 24-hour access.
The founding-member rate has already changed. In late August, Bay Area Telegraph reported a $65 monthly rate for the first 400 people to enroll. The club's page now refers to a second round of founding memberships for "the next 300 members only" and says the standard rate will rise to $109 a month after that round fills. It also says reserving a rate carries no obligation to join. Confirm the current founding price with the club before you count on a number.
The Iron House calls itself a strength, nutrition and recovery studio. It offers coaching, private and small-group training, nutrition support, massage and golf fitness. Its main format is the POD, a coach-led strength session for no more than six people. Sessions run 55 minutes and follow customized training blocks built around each client's goals, and one-on-one private training is also available. Memberships come in tiers of six or 12 POD credits a month, or unlimited PODs at the premier level, with different nutrition and other benefits at each tier.
BODYROK at 170F teaches classes built around a beat. Its Alamo "Six Packs & Backs" class is a 45-minute, music-led full-body workout that mixes Pilates, cardio and weight training. BODYROK Basics covers reformer fundamentals at a slower pace for newcomers.
Here is how the three compare:
| Vim + Vigor Reserve Club | The Iron House | BODYROK Alamo | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Address | 130 Alamo Plaza | 190F Alamo Plaza | 170F Alamo Plaza |
| Status | Pre-enrollment from Nov. 2; opening targeted for December 2026 | Open | Open |
| Format | Open-floor club with personal training available | Coach-led strength PODs plus private training | Instructor-led reformer classes |
| Session or group size | Self-directed; 24-hour access reported | Groups capped at six; 55-minute sessions | 45-minute signature class |
| Extras | Salt sauna, red-light therapy, compression boots, massage chairs | Nutrition, massage, golf fitness | BODYROK Basics for reformer newcomers |
| Pricing model | Monthly membership; standard rate listed at $109 | Monthly POD credit tiers or unlimited | Class-based studio |
The table shows how little the three overlap. At the Reserve Club, members get space, equipment and recovery amenities on their own schedule. The Iron House is built around a coach's attention, in groups small enough for that coach to watch every rep. A BODYROK class is a structured 45 minutes on a reformer, with the playlist and pacing set by the instructor. A person might join one for the open floor and book another for coaching or a class. The amenities point that way as well. The Reserve Club's recovery list, The Iron House's massage and golf fitness, and BODYROK's beginner track each serve a different need.
The rest of the plaza matters too. Safeway and the post office are anchors people visit for errands anyway. With the Rite Aid gone, the plaza lost a reason for those quick stops. A 24-hour club in the same footprint gives people a new reason to visit, at hours the old pharmacy never kept. The October 2025 feature placed Alamo Plaza at the center of a two-block commercial stretch around Danville Boulevard and Stone Valley Road, and it described county general-plan goals for a livelier, mixed-use downtown gathering place. A gym does not make a downtown mixed-use on its own. A large storefront that is lit and busy before work and after dinner does change how that corner feels compared with a dark one.
Pilates options also extend just beyond the plaza. BC Pilates & Massage lists Pilates training and massage therapy at 3200-A Danville Blvd., Suite 100, in Alamo, a short walk from the Stone Valley intersection.
The dates line up with the end of the year. The Reserve Club's pre-enrollment office opens Monday, November 2, the Monday after this post goes live. That leaves about a month to visit the temporary office, ask about the current founding rate, and decide before the December opening. If the club misses its December target, the founding-rate reservation still carries no obligation.
If you have never tried a reformer, BODYROK Basics is designed to teach the equipment at a slower pace before you move into the full 45-minute class. If you want strength coaching, The Iron House's six-credit tier works out to roughly one or two POD sessions a week. Golfers can ask the studio about its golf fitness program, which it lists among its core services.
Holiday errands bring a lot of trips to this plaza. A workout and a run to Safeway or the post office can now fit into one stop at 130, 170 or 190 Alamo Plaza, all in the same lot.
